DEBNATH, Soma Chakraborty [SCD]
I am a self-taught Indian folk artist. My most favourite Indian folk art form is Madhubani. My art is inspired by nature, mythology, folk tales and everyday life. I try to bring forward the cultures of Indian tradition, the relationship of people and provide an perspective of the not-so-widely-spoken-of life of some community of a faraway land.
Madhubani or Mithila painting is a style of folk painting, practiced in the Mithila region of eastern Indian state Bihar. The art form is named after the village of its origin, Madhubani (translation: Forest of Honey).
Madhubani paintings mostly showcase nature, Hindu social and cultural events and activities of day to day life.
